Barcelona handed major fitness boost as long-term injury absentee likely to return to action after international break - Reports
Barcelona have been handed a big boost with long-term absentee Gavi reportedly being ready to come back into action after the international break. The midfielder has been out with an anterior cruciate ligament tear for close to a year now.
The Blaugrana will take on Sevilla at home on Sunday, October 20, after the international break. If reports are to be believed, Gavi might be ready to make a comeback into the side by then.
According to Forbes, the 20-year-old has taken part in enough training sessions by now and participated in an intra-squad match to be confident of coming back onto the pitch.
Gavi injured his ACL while playing for Spain against Georgia in late 2023 and spent most of 2024 on the physio's table recuperating from the injury. This news of him being back will give a major boost to Barcelona's head coach Hansi Flick.
The German will be keen on welcoming the central midfielder back into the fold as it will allow him to add layers to the centre of the park and outfox their opponents with more pace and versatility on the ball. Gavi's vision will also be highly sought.
Barcelona are at the top of La Liga table
Barcelona stand at the top of La Liga at the moment, having amassed 24 points from the nine matches that they have played. However, arch-rivals Real Madrid stand in their shadow, and are second with 21 points.
Hansi Flick's appointment as the manager of Barcelona earlier this season was met with widespread acclaim, and the former Bayern Munich boss has not done his reputation any harm whatsoever.
His attacking tactics have seen Barca score 28 goals so far this season while conceding only nine. They have won eight out of the nine matches that they have played so far, suffering only a shock loss to Osasuna away from home on 29 September.
Gavi's return will spur Barcelona on as it will allow them more strength to their core side. Flick will also be able to rotate his players freely given that the club has a lot of trophies to contend for this season.
