Barcelona learn potential return date for Dani Olmo after hamstring injury confirmed

Barcelona forward Dani Olmo has been sidelined for up to five weeks due to a hamstring injury. This will come as a harsh note to the ears of Barca fans, as Olmo quickly adapted to life on his return to his childhood club.

The 26-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in Barcelona’s 4-1 thumping of fellow Catalan side Girona away from home on Sunday (September 15). He was replaced in the 61st minute after scoring the team’s third goal in the game.

After the match, coach Hansi Flick was hoping that the injury would not be a serious one, as the German coach considers him important to the team, having started him in all three La Liga matches ever since he was registered.

In what will come as a blow to Hansi Flick as Barca fans, they will have to play their next few games without the Euro 2024 winner. The club released a statement via its website to confirm the severity of the injury. It reads:

''Tests conducted this Monday morning on Dani Olmo have revealed that the FC Barcelona forward has injured his right hamstring. He is expected to be unavailable for the next four to five weeks.’’

With the length of his injury confirmed, Olmo will miss Barca’s trip to AS Monaco in the Champions League on Thursday (September 19). He will also miss La Liga matches against Villarreal, Getafe, Osasuna, Alaves, and Sevilla and is unlikely to feature in the El Clasico on October 27. Apart from Monaco in the Champions League, he will be out of the club’s clash with Young Boys and possibly Bayern Munich.

Dani Olmo makes history as Barcelona trash Girona

Barcelona put fellow Catalan side Girona to the sword (4-1) at Estadi Montilivi to maintain their perfect start to the season. The match, however, saw summer signing Dani Olmo etch his name into the club’s history book as he got himself on the scoresheet to give his side a commanding victory and propel them to the summit of the La Liga table.

In all of Olmo’s first three La Liga matches for Blaugrana, he got himself on the scoresheet. He scored the winner against Rayo Vallecano as they came from behind. He was also on the scoresheet in Barca’s 7-0 trashing of Valladolid and scored the third goal in their away victory against Girona.

With this, Dani Olmo became the third Barcelona player this century to score in his first three La Liga games (3 goals), after Zlatan Ibrahimovic (5 games, 5 goals in 2009) and Cesc Fabregas (4 games, 4 goals in 2011).
