Barcelona set to offer stunning new contract to star player amid PSG interest - Reports
Barcelona are ready to offer Lamine Yamal an improved offer to ward off interest from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to MARCA. The teenage sensation exploded into the scenes at Camp Nou last season and has turned heads at multiple clubs across competitions.
Yamal registered seven goals and nine assists from 50 games across all competitions and has already generated comparisons with the great Lionel Messi. Like the diminutive magician, the Spaniard also rose through the ranks at the Catalans to break into the first team.
Still only 17, Yamal was also on song for La Roja at Euro 2024, helping them win the tournament. His efforts have endeared him to the Parisians, who reportedly offered €250m for his services over the summer.
The La Liga giants rejected their proposal, but are eager to end any speculation regarding the player's future. The Ligue 1 champions are still on the lookout for Kylian Mbappe's successor, with the French superstar joining Real Madrid this summer.
Yamal fits the bill and PSG have him under consideration at the moment. The Parisians have previously done business with Barcelona, signing Neymar for a world record fee of approximately €222m in 2017.
Last summer, Ousmane Dembele made the move from the Camp Nou to the Parc des Princes. Most notably, Lionel Messi left the Catalans to join the Ligue 1 champions as a free agent in 2021.
Can Barcelona stop PSG from signing Lamine Yamal?
Despite the rising interest from PSG, Barcelona remain determined to keep hold of Lamine Yamal. The Spaniard is under contract at Camp Nou until 2026, and has inadvertently generated attention from multiple clubs in the continent.
However, the Catalans plan to tie him down to a new deal as soon as he turns 18 next July. The La Liga giants will offer him a long-term deal that will keep him at the club until 2030 and also hand him remuneration that justifies his efforts.
Until he signs a new deal, the Parisians are likely to keep Yamal under close watch. The Spaniard has been in red-hot form this season as well and already has three goals and four assists from five games across competitions under Hansi Flick.
The French champions are trying to hand Luis Enrique a squad of his liking and the Spanish manager would welcome his countryman with open arms. PSG haven't been afraid to splash the cash on players and could test Barcelona's resolve again in the near future.
