Barcelona star confirms he has no plans to leave the club this summer
Barcelona defender Eric Garcia has confirmed that he has no plans to leave the club this summer. The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Girona, racking up 31 appearances and scoring five times.
Garcia came through the La Masia youth ranks before he moved to Manchester City's academy. He went on to play 35 times for the English giants' senior squad before returning to Catalonia on a free transfer in 2021.
The Spanish defender has played 70 times for Blaugrana but has seen his future questioned following the arrival of new head coach Hansi Flick this summer. Speaking about his future (via Mundo Deportivo), Garcia insisted that he would remain with the team, saying:
“Yes, yes, 100%. I’m staying at Barça.”
Barcelona hope to regain their La Liga crown from arch rivals Real Madrid in the upcoming season. Eric Garcia's decision to remain will leave them with another trusted defender on their books as they begin the new campaign.
New Barcelona signing Dani Olmo highlights intention with club
New Barcelona signing Dani Olmo has highlighted his intent to win everything possible with the Catalan club following his arrival. The 26-year-old came through the club's youth ranks, before departing and forging a name for himself at Dinamo Zagreb and RB Leipzig.
The Spanish giants signed the Euro 2024 star from Leipzig in a deal worth €55 million. He will be expected to help sharpen the attack for Hansi Flick's team in the new campaign and regain La Liga glory after missing out to eternal rivals Real Madrid last term.
Speaking about his return to the club, Olmo told Barca One :
“I’m very happy to be back home, with my family, with teammates from the national team. I’m so excited to get going. I came here to fight for all titles possible. We’re Barça and we should be competing for everything. We have the team, we have the players, we have technical staff. Let’s fight for it all.
“They were intense, but that’s normal. We reached an agreement with Leipzig pretty quickly and I really appreciate that. It’s been my dream, but Barça’s commitment to bring me has to be emphasized. I’m proud that they want me, and proud to be here.
"I’ve already played with a lot of Barça players. I’m excited to see them and other quality players like Frenkie and Lewandowski. I’m ready and so excited to get out there and win.”
Barcelona will be pleased with their new signing's hunger and intent to get the ball rolling at the club. Los Cules face Valencia away on August 17 in their first match of the 2024-25 season.
