Barcelona star Lamine Yamal could make Champions League history if he scores against Young Boys
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal is set to break another record when his side faces Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday (October 1). The young Spaniard has shattered a host of records since he burst onto the scene and looks set to add another record to his list of accomplishments.
The 17-year-old narrowly missed out on being the youngest goalscorer in the competition's history, missing out to his Blaugrana teammate Ansu Fati's age by 28 days. Yamal found the back of the net in the previous round of fixtures at 17 years and 68 days, while Fati's record stands at 17 years and 40 days.
Lamine Yamal and Barcelona will face their Swiss opposition after their defeat in the opening fixture to AS Monaco. The forward will hope he can get his side a victory to begin making amends for their previous loss. If he scores in his effort, he will claim the record as the youngest player to score in consecutive games in the Champions League.
Young Boys manager reveals plan to deal with Barcelona star Lamine Yamal in Champions League clash
Young Boys manager Patrick Rahmen has revealed his plan to deal with Barcelona star Lamine Yamal when his side faces the Catalan giants in the Champions League.
Yamal is one of the best players in the world despite his age and has helped his club and country to immense success since he established himself as a first-team regular last season. The 17-year-old has played 59 games for his boyhood club, scoring 12 goals and setting up 14.
Rahmen remains hopeful that his team can handle the talented youngster when they meet, telling the press ahead of the game via Barca Blaugranes:
“Lamine Yamal is an extraordinary player. It’s incredible what he has already achieved, I have a lot of respect for him. We will have to be a compact team to prevent such a special player from unleashing his creativity. But there will be no man-to-man marking, we will try to control him as a team. We have to be organised."
Barcelona head into their game against Young Boys, fresh off a stinging 4-2 victory over Osasuna in La Liga on Sunday (September 29). The Catalan giants will be keen to return to winning ways in their Champions League clash, particularly in light of the fact that they suffered a defeat in their opening game in the competition.
