Barcelona suffer fresh injury setback as key player joins Lamine Yamal on the sidelines
Barcelona, who are already missing Lamine Yamal due to injury, have been dealt a few injury blow this week. According to a statement from the Polish Football Association, Robert Lewandowski is set to be sidelined for 10 days due to a back injury.
The 36-year-old picked up the injury during Sunday's defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad. The Catalans had injury concerns regarding Frenkie de Jong and Lewandowski after the game but it was later confirmed that the Dutchman is okay.
The Polish Football Association have now announced that Lewandowski will not be involved in the upcoming games against Portugal and Scotland.
“The Polish Football Association has announced that Robert Lewandowski will not take part in the November training camp of the Polish national team, preparing for the UEFA Nations League matches against Portugal and Scotland,” read the statement.
It continued:
“The reason for the absence of the captain of the national team is a back injury he suffered in the league match against Real Sociedad, ruling him out of action for about ten days.”
Lewandowski has scored 19 goals in 17 games under Hansi Flick this season. As such, the news will be a cause of bother for Barcelona, who are already without Lamine Yamal. The Catalans confirmed on Monday (November 11) that the 17-year-old has suffered a Grade 1 syndesmosis injury in his right ankle.
The Spaniard is set to be sidelined for two to three weeks, which will be a huge blow to the Spanish giants. However, Lewandowski is likely to be fit for Barcelona's game against Celta Vigo on November 23.

Lamine Yamal exploded on the scene at Barcelona last season, registering seven goals and nine assists from 50 games across competitions. Over the summer, he helped Spain win Euro 2024.
This season, the 17-year-old has taken his game to a whole new level under Hansi Flick. The German manager took charge of the Catalans this summer and has ensured that the managerial change didn't affect the Spaniard.
Lamine Yamal has registered six goals and eight assists from 16 games across competitions this season for the LaLiga giants. Barcelona certainly felt his absence against Real Sociedad, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at the Reale Arena.
The teenage forward was apparently the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) over the summer. The Catalans reportedly turned down a €250m offer from the Parisians for the Spaniard.
