Barcelona Transfer News Roundup: Catalans eyeing PSG ace, club want Ederson, and more - September 24, 2024
Barcelona are preparing to face Getafe on Wednesday (September 25) in La Liga. Hansi Flick's team have won all six games in the league this season and will be determined to maintain the record in midweek.
Meanwhile, the Catalans are eyeing a move for a former goalkeeper who plays for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Elsewhere, the Spanish giants are interested in Atalanta midfielder Ederson Dos Santos.
On that note, let's look at the major Barcelona transfer stories from September 24, 2024.
Barcelona eyeing Arnau Tenas
Barcelona are plotting a January move for Arnau Tenas, according to SPORT. The Catalans have been forced into action following an injury to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
The German custodian picked up a knock during the 5-1 win over Villarreal on Sunday (September 22) and had to be replaced. It has since been revealed that he has undergone surgery to treat a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee.
Ter Stegen may not play again this season, as he has undergone two surgeries on the same knee in recent years. The situation has complicated matters for the La Liga giants, with backup goalkeeper Inaki Pena not inciting confidence.
Barcelona have now turned to Arnau Tenas, who rose through the ranks at La Masia and was once highly regarded at the club. The 23-year-old joined PSG in 2023 after the Catalans failed to renew his deal.
However, Tenas has struggled for game time at the Parc des Princes, with the indomitable Gianluigi Donnarumma above him in the pecking order. He is yet to appear for the Parisians this season.
The Spaniard has previously expressed a desire to return to Camp Nou and the opportunity could arrive at the turn of the year. His contract with the Ligue 1 champions runs until 2026 but he could be allowed to leave for a reduced fee in January.
Catalans want Ederson
Barcelona have set their sights on Ederson, according to TNT Sports. The Brazilian midfielder has recently been a first-team regular for Atalanta and has turned heads at Camp Nou.
The Catalans are still looking for Sergio Busquets' successor, with the legendary Spaniard leaving the club at the end of the 2022-23 season. Oriol Romeu was roped in to fill his shoes but failed to live up to the billing. The former Girona midfielder returned to the Estadi Montilivi this summer and is no longer part of Barcelona's plans.
The Catalans failed to sign a replacement and remain in the market for a new pivot midfielder. Ederson could be a fine option for the job and could be on the move next summer.
He is under contract with the Serie A side until 2027 and is likely to cost a proper fee. The La Liga giants may have to sort out their finances before they can script a deal for the 25-year-old.
Claudio Bravo offers to come out of retirement for Barcelona
Former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is willing to come out of retirement to help the club deal with Marc-Andre Ter Stegen's injury. Bravo arrived at Camp Nou in 2014 from Real Sociedad and enjoyed a fruitful stay.
He registered 43 clean sheets from 75 games across competitions over two seasons, winning eight trophies, including the fabled treble. The 41-year-old left the club in 2016 to move to Manchester City.
Bravo announced his decision to hang up his boots last month, following a four-season stay with Real Betis. However, he has offered his services to his former club, should they need him.
Speaking to WinWin All Sports, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, the Chilean said:
“If Barcelona want me, I will be ready to come out of retirement."
However, given his age, the Catalans may consider a younger alternative.
