Barcelona could wait till January to sign Ter Stegen replacement as La Liga leaders plot move to sign former La Masia star: Reports
A potential reunion is on the cards as Barcelona have expressed interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Arnau Tenas. According to Spanish outlet Sport, La Blaugrana could make a move for the shot-stopper in the January transfer window.
This comes after first-choice keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a knee injury in their 5-1 win over Villarreal (September 22) after falling awkwardly during a corner. ESPN reported that the German is believed to have suffered a long-term injury that could keep him out for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
In his absence, youngster Inaki Pena replaced him for the second half of the fixture. However, Barcelona are plotting a return for Tenas. The 23-year-old left Camp Nou in the summer of 2023 after his contract expired in search of more game time.
He eventually joined PSG where he is serving as a backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma. In all, he has made just six appearances for Les Parisiens. Tenas was also a part of Spain's Olympic team in Paris 2024 that went on to win the gold medal.
Pundit makes emphatic claim about Barcelona star following big win over Villarreal
ESPN pundit Julien Laurens has heaped praise on Barcelona star Lamine Yamal. Following La Blaugrana's 5-1 win over Villarreal, he claimed that the 17-year-old was the best player in the world.
Laurens said (via The Gab & Juls Show):
“Lamine Yamal is the best player in the world right now. I know he is only 17 and I know this is just the beginning and I know there is Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, and whoever you want to mention, Lamine Yamal is the best player in the world right now. There’s just no debate. He is just on another level.”
Yamal has been sensational for Hansi Flick's side as they have enjoyed a terrific start to their La Liga campaign. The winger leads the league in goal contributions (8) and has bagged a goal or assist in each of their six games in La Liga.
His form has helped Barcelona establish themselves as the early leaders in Spain, winning all six of their fixtures. They have proven to be a goalscoring machine, finding the back of the net 22 times already.
Yamal burst onto the scene last season, seizing the right winger spot under previous manager Xavi. He made 50 appearances across all competitions, collecting seven goals and nine assists. He impressed for Spain at the Euros as well, scoring once and setting up four more as La Roja went on to lift the trophy.
