"Beast" - David de Gea blown away by Manchester United star's performance against Coventry City
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was impressed by Diogo Dalot's performance in the Red Devils' FA Cup semi-final win on Sunday (April 21).
The Premier League side managed to secure their spot in the final after a 3-3 draw with Coventry, which needed to be decided by a penalty shootout (4-2). It was Manchester United who led by three goals after the 58th minute, only to see a monumental comeback from Coventry, who leveled proceedings before full-time.
Dalot, who grabbed an assist on the night, also converted his spot-kick in the shootout. After his team's victory, he took to Instagram and wrote while sharing pictures from the match:
"We are in the Emirates FA Cup final. A hard-fought qualification. Honour to Coventry and their fans. This is what cup matches and the FA Cup are all about."
"A massive thank you to the United fans for your constant support. Let's give our all in the season ending."
De Gea, who played 93 matches with the Portuguese defender at Old Trafford, commented on Dalot's post:
"Beast."
The Red Devils will now take on their local rivals, Manchester City, in the final of this tournament on May 25. These two sides met in the FA Cup final last season as well, and it was the Cityzens who came out victorious by a 2-1 scoreline.
Breaking down Diogo Dalot's numbers from his FA Cup performance against Coventry for Manchester United
Despite an unimpressive defensive display in the second half from Manchester United, Diogo Dalot was one among the backline who left the game with his head held high.
The 25-year-old barely put a foot wrong in his team's semi-final against Coventry, managing an impressive 94% passing accuracy (via United in Focus). He created three chances, made five interceptions, completed three clearances, and won all his aerial duels.
Dalot has been a consistent performer under Erik ten Hag this season, earning himself 43 appearances across competitions. From those matches, he's scored two goals and assisted five.
Dalot has also shown his versatility in the 2023/24 season, playing on either side of the central defenders depending on the needs of his team. Expect him to feature for Manchester United when they host Sheffield United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Wednesday (April 24).
