Belgium midfielder claims he will tackle Kylian Mbappe in the shin during Euro 2024 knockout clash, Red Devils apologise for controversial video
Belgium midfielder Amadou Onana made a claim in a song that he will tackle Kylian Mbappe in the shin during their EURO 2024 knockout clash. Both sides are set to face off on July 1 at the Dusseldorf Arena for their Round of 16 match. The video has now gone viral, with the country's national team officially apologizing for it.
Amadou Onana was hanging out with Belgian comedian Pablo Andres, and the two were singing together. During the playful song, Onana sang a chant about getting Mbappe with a shin tackle.
The Belgian Football Association released a statement after the video was released on social media (via Daily Mail):
"A video was posted yesterday (Friday) on social networks in which Amadou Onana talks about tackling Mbappé on the shin. The Federation has been working with Pablo Andres for several years now. The one published on our networks was also humorous. We apologise if anyone may have been offended."
Neither Kylian Mbappe nor the France Football Association have commented in response to the video or the apology. They will be focused on the upcoming match instead, with the loser set to be kicked out of EURO 2024.
Kylian Mbappe struggling to adapt to mask wearing at EURO 2024
Kylian Mbappe is yet to take EURO 2024 by storm, having played two of their three group games. His first game saw him affect an own goal against Austria before he scored a penalty in their last group stage match against Poland.
However, he wasn't available to play in their draw with the Netherlands after being left on the bench throughout. This came after the injury that saw him break his nose during a collision with Austria star Kevin Danso.
Although he has continued to play with a mask, France head coach Didier Deschamps does not think Kylian Mbappe has adapted just yet. The coach said to the media (via Daily Mail):
"Breathing, no. But vision, yes. It limits vision a little. It's supposed to protect so in certain situations, it limits the angle of view. A greater risk of playing in the middle? No, the contacts are everywhere, in all the duels. It all depends on the position. You have to get used to it, it feels like you have 3D glasses."
The forward will hope he can adapt to the mask quicker and help France get to the next round of EURO 2024 by beating Belgium.
