Brazil to face Uruguay in 2024 Copa America quarter-finals after failing to beat Colombia and finishing 2nd in Group D
Brazil will face Uruguay in the Copa America 2024 quarter-finals after drawing 1-1 against Colombia at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Tuesday, July 2. The five-time world champions finished second in Group D with five points.
After Raphinha gave Brazil the lead in the 12th minute against Colombia, Daniel Munoz equalized in the final moments of the first half (45+2).
The Selecao drew two matches in the group stages against Costa Rica (0-0) and Colombia and won 4-1 against Paraguay.
Dorival Junior's men gave an underwhelming performance in the group stages and Uruguay will pose a formidable challenge. Le Celeste won all three of their group-stage matches and finished atop Group C with nine points, beating the USA, Panama, and Bolivia in the process.
If Brazil can beat Uruguay, they will face either Colombia or Panama in the Copa America 2024 semi-finals.
Vinicius Jr will miss Brazil's Copa America quarter-final clash against Uruguay
Following an underwhelming group-stage performance in the Copa America 2024, Vinicius Jr is set to miss the Selecao's quarter-final clash against Uruguay on Saturday, July 6, due to suspension.
The star forward received his second yellow card of the edition after fouling Colombia's James Rodriguez in the seventh minute of the 1-1 draw. Two yellow cards lead to a one-match suspension as per the tournament's rules.
Vinicius was earlier booked during the Selecao's second group-stage clash against Paraguay when he was caught arguing in the 83rd minute. The Real Madrid star, who helped Los Blancos win the La Liga and the Champions League last season, scored twice in the 4-1 win.
Vinicius is expected to be back for the semi-finals if Brazil make it to the stage by getting past Uruguay.
