Brazilian club's president believes a return to former team could be the 'best preparation' for Neymar Jr ahead of the 2026 World Cup
Santos club president Marcelo Teixeira has sent a message to Neymar amid reports of his exit from Al Hilal. He believes the Brazilian superstar should return home, play for his former club, and prepare for the World Cup 2026.
Teixeira told ESPN that Neymar needs to be happy – something he can only do at home. He believes the move would be a win-win for both the club and the player, saying:
"We can't come out publicly saying that it will happen in January, in June. Right now, the fact is that anything can happen. As soon as anything happens, the parties are very close. You can see his joy, he himself says he is at home here. This is a favorable and positive factor for Santos, for him, and for Brazilian football. He is happy, and joyful. I believe that, for Neÿmar, if this happens, it could be the best preparation for the World Cup."
Vice president of Santos' board of directors Nico Osvaldo said:
"Neÿmar will arrive at Santos in June. That's the conversation we are having. He will come back!"
Apart from Santos, Inter Miami have been linked with a move for Neymar. The MLS outfit reportedly want to reunite the Brazilian with his former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi.
Neymar happy at Al Hilal amid interest from Santos and Inter Miami
Neymar has broken his silence on Al Hilal amid reports that Santos want to re-sign him. The Brazil international said he is happy at the Saudi Pro League club and is looking forward to more star players moving to the Middle East.
Neymar said in a recent interview (via Goal and @Saudi2034bid on X) while backing Saudi's bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2030:
"The opportunity to play here and live in a country like this is very important for people. That's why I always say that I was very well-received here. I'm very happy and I'm sure it will only get better. I'm sure other stars will come here. I believe that many will have the opportunity to come here, and I think that everyone should have the opportunity to experience what I have experienced here."
Despite Neymar claiming he is happy at Al Hilal, reports suggest the Saudi club are looking to part ways with the Brazilian ace due to his injury issues.
