BREAKING: Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr part ways with manager Luis Castro

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr have parted ways with their head coach Luis Castro, as announced by the Saudi Pro League giants on their website. Castro had been at the helm at Mrsool Park since July last year, succeeding Luis Castro.

However, the Portuguese failed to lead his side to silverware last season - finishing a distant second behind runaway unbeaten winners Al-Hilal in the league. The Knights of Najd also lost to their arch-rivals in the Super Cup semi-final and the King Cup final on penalties.

Castro's side have had an underwhelming start to the new season. falling 4-1 to holders Al-Hilal in the Super Cup final and have drawn two of their opening three Saudi Pro League games. Their stuttering start continued, as they drew 1-1 in their AFC Champions League opener at Iraqi side Al-Shorta on Monday.

Al-Alami have announced on their website about parting ways with Castro and his support staff after 14 months of association, tweeting:

"Al-Nassr can announce that Head Coach Luis Castro has left the Club. Everyone at Al-Nassr would like to thank Luis and his staff for their dedicated work during the past 14 months, wishing them the best of luck for the future."

Ronaldo and Co. next take on Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League in Dammam on Friday.

Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has had a rousing start to the season, scoring in his first four games across competitions. The 39-year-old started off with a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win over Al-Taawoun in the Super Cup semi-final.

Ronaldo scored in the 4-1 final loss to Al-Hilal before netting in his first two league games: 1-1 draw at home to Al-Raed and 4-1 win at Al-Fayha. However, he drew a blank in his next league outing as Al-Alami drew 1-1 at home to Al-Ahli.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner missed his side's AFC Champions League opener at Al-Shorta due to a virus but is expected to be available for their league game this weekend.
