Florian Wirtz has not been named in Germany's starting XI against Denmark in their Round of 16 clash in Euro 2024. The match is set to take place on June 29, at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who made his senior debut for Germany in 2021, has pulled off some great performances for his nation in this year's tournament. He scored one goal while maintaining a passing accuracy of 93.34% in three matches.
Wirtz getting benched in the championship's knockout stage comes as a shock to many. The German fans would be hoping that head coach Julian Nagelsmann has a winning plan.
Germany's starting line-up against Denmark includes goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, and defender Joshua Kimmich, Antonio Rüdiger, Nico Schlotterbeck, and David Raum. Robert Andrich, Toni Kroos, Leroy Sané, İlkay Gündoğan (captain) and Jamal Musiala, and Kai Havertz complete the playing XI. Julian Nagelsmann's squad will be playing in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Florian Wirtz made new record for Germany in Euro 2024 opener
Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for Germany in their opening match of Euro 2024 against Scotland, just 10 minutes into the clash. It ended in a dominant 5-1 victory for Die Mannschaft on June 14.
The opening goal also marked the Bayer Leverkusen star's first-ever Euro goal. It also made him the youngest German player to score in the European Championship, aged 21 years and 42 days. The broke the previous record of Kai Havertz.
Overall, Wirtz has netted two goals and provided four assists in 21 appearances across all competitions for Germany. He is yet to claim a major international trophy.
