"Bro should just retire" 'Hospital captain" - Chelsea fans lose their minds as extent of Reece James' injury layoff is confirmed

Chelsea captain Reece James has suffered yet another hamstring injury that will keep him sidelined for at least three months.

English journalist Nathan Gissing (via CentreGoals) reports that James has undergone a medical assessment of his injury. The English right-back was subbed off with the issue during the first half of his side's 2-0 defeat to Everton on Sunday (December 10).

The scans that have taken place have confirmed that James has suffered a hamstring injury which is a massive blow for the player and Chelsea. Injuries continue to blight the full-back's career and he'd only just returned from another long-term hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old has made nine appearances across competitions this season, providing one assist. He's regarded as one of the west Londoners' most important players and his absence will be a nightmare for Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea are in a crisis, sitting 12th in the league after 16 games. The loss to Everton was their seventh of the campaign and has only further jeopardized their hopes of a top-four finish.

Reece James will also be concerned with his latest injury setback as England head to the European Championships in Germany next summer. He missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup due to another hamstring injury.

One fan advised James to call time on his career due to constant injury issues:

"Bro should just retire. Scamming Chelsea at this point."

Another fan mocked the England international:

"Hospital captain."

Here's how fans on X (formerly Twitter) reacted to the devastating news that Reece James is set for months on the sidelines:

According to The Telegraph, Reece James took his struggling Chelsea side on a Christmas night out just hours after losing to Everton. The Blues' captain had planned the event for him and his teammates in London after the trip to Goodison Park.

James opted to go ahead with the bonding session, although the loss to the Merseysiders nearly saw him reverse the decision. The group of players headed to Bagatelle restaurant in Mayfair before going to Tape nightclub.

Pochettino gave the team his blessing to attend the event and didn't feel the need to cancel despite his side's seventh league defeat of the season. His troops are wounded at the moment and there are question marks over several players' futures.

However, Pochettino felt Chelsea deserved a point from their trip to Goodison. He said:

"Football is about scoring goals, and we were not clinical in front of goal. I'm really, really disappointed. We didn't get the point we deserved. I think we were better, but we didn't get what we wanted."

The mood around Stamford Bridge is extremely low due to the club's poor showings this season. They finished 12th in the 2022-23 campaign but have shown little progression under Pochettino.
