Bruno Fernandes responds to Portugal teammate Bernardo Silva calling him ‘Penandes’
Bruno Fernandes has responded to Bernardo Silva's hilarious claim after Portugal's Euro 2024 win over Slovenia on Monday (July 1). Fernandes came up with an amusing nickname for his teammate and himself, labeling them, 'Benandes & Penandes', respectively.
Roberto Martinez's men locked horns with Slovenia in the Euro 2024 Round of 16 at the Deutsche Bank Park. Neither side could break the deadlock at the end of the regulation 90 and extra time ensued.
Portugal were awarded a penalty after a foul on Diogo Jota in the box and Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to the spot in the 105th minute. However, his shot was emphatically saved by Jan Oblak, keeping the score level.
Benjamin Sesko was in on goal in the second half but his tame strike was saved by Diogo Costa. The match went on to penalties and Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up for the first spot-kick.
This time, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner slotted it home and set the tone for the rest of the shootout. Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva converted their penalties, while Diogo Costa bagged a hat-trick of saves to knock Slovenia out of the tournament.
After the game, Bernardo Silva took to social media to celebrate their victory. The Manchester City star posted a picture on Instagram alongside Bruno Fernandes with a caption that read:
"With my friend and penalty professor Bruno Penandes!"
The Manchester United midfielder added the post on his Instagram story and wrote:
"Benandes & Penandes"
