"Bye-bye CR7" – France fans filmed sharing hilarious message for Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal ahead of Euro 2024 quarter-final showdown
Before Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal's UEFA Euro 2024 last-eight contest against France, Les Bleus fans have expressed their confidence about marching on to the tournament semi-finals.
France, who finished second behind Austria in Group D of the Euro 2024, recorded a 1-0 last-16 victory over Belgium earlier this Monday.
Portugal, on the other hand, were forced to play 120 minutes in their last-16 match against Slovenia. They were held to a 0-0 scoreline at the end of extra-time before recording a 3-0 penalty shootout win.
After the end of Portugal's contest, GOAL filmed a fan reaction video featuring two Les Bleus fans. The presenter asked the supporters:
"Are you scared of Portugal?"
Both of the aforesaid supporters responded in a hilarious manner:
"No! Bye-bye, bye-bye CR7! We love you but bye-bye! We have [Kylian] Mbappe but if we don't have Mbappe, we have the best team."
France, who will next be in action at the Euro 2024 on July 5, have won 11 and lost just one of their past 14 meetings against Ronaldo's team.
Ex-France star offers thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo starting Euro 2024 last-eight clash
During a chat on ESPN FC, ex-France star Frank Leboeuf was queried if Cristiano Ronaldo starting for Portugal would be better for Didier Deschamps' side on July 5. The 1998 FIFA World Cup winner replied:
"I would say yes because he is a magnet. The players are influenced by the fact that he's on the field. They would have more options, less talent maybe, but still more options if he wasn't playing. Since he is playing, they have to give him the ball. If he makes a run, and you can see the way he behaves when he doesn't receive the ball... he goes, 'Why didn't you give me the ball?'"
Leboeuf, who helped Les Bleus win the UEFA Euro 2000, continued:
"For France, you have to take care of him because you know that at some point, players are going to look for him. Those players, they're playing with somebody who is already a legend and they know they cannot cope with him [if he's frustrated during a game]. It's not Ronaldo's fault, it's just human behaviour."
Earlier this Monday (July 1), Ronaldo failed to convert a penalty in the extra-time of Portugal's Euro 2024 last-16 clash against Slovenia. But, he managed to score his penalty-kick in the shootout after extra-time.
The 39-year-old is yet to score a goal in four Euro 2024 appearances.
