"Can pull it off at the weekend" - Didi Hamann makes prediction for PL clash between Liverpool and Chelsea

Dietmar "Didi" Hamann has backed Liverpool to beat Chelsea on Sunday (October 20) in the Premier League. The former player believes that the Blues are improving but the Reds will emerge victorious at Anfield.

Speaking to Wettbasis (via DAZN), Hamann said Chelsea are using their squad well and gradually getting into shape. However, the 51-year-old believes Liverpool will be able to get past the Blues.

"We will have to wait and see with Chelsea. They have a very, very large squad. They seem to have managed to slowly get a shallow plant to grow, but it is still very early days for them. So I definitely think that Liverpool can pull it off at the weekend," Hamann said .

Arne Slot's side are on top of the Premier League points table after seven matches. The Reds have lost just once this season, and the 1-0 defeat came at home against Nottingham Forest on September 14.

The Blues will enter Sunday's game after drawing 1-1 at home with Nottingham Forest on October 6. Enzo Maresca's side are fourth on the table, four points behind the leaders.

Dietmar "Didi" Hamann backs Liverpool to do well this season ahead of Chelsea clash

In the same interview, Didi Hamann heaped praise on Arne Slot's side, saying Liverpool have done extremely well this season so far. He believes the next set of fixtures will determine their season but exuded confidence in the Anfield side.

Hamann said:

"They started the season very well in Liverpool, are making a very good impression under the new coach and have now of course played against teams from below, the real tough guys are coming now. In the next six games, Chelsea are involved, Manchester City are involved, Leverkusen and Leipzig are involved."
"So the next six games will be decisive in the league, and also in the Champions League. But so far, the coach has done wonderfully, very calmly, and they are playing very good football too. Apart from the Nottingham Forest game, which they lost, they have done wonderfully so far," he added.

Chelsea and Liverpool appointed new managers in the summer but had contrasting windows. While the Reds were quiet, the Blues continued their spending spree, bringing in the likes of Neto, Joao Felix, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Renato Veiga, Filip Jorgensen, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. They also added Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United.
