“Can’t even control the ball better than me”, “He is shite” - Fans share concern about Real Madrid superstar despite 2-0 win vs Villarreal
Real Madrid fans on social media raised concerns about the performance of superstar forward Kylian Mbappe in their 2-0 win over Villarreal in La Liga on Saturday, October 5. The French forward failed to record a goal or assist for Los Blancos despite starting the game against the Yellow Submarine.
Mbappe started alongside Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr. in attack for Los Blancos. The 25-year-old was making his first start since scoring against Alaves on September 24, having missed a week of action through injury.
Kylian Mbappe was mostly a spectator for Real Madrid as he struggled to get up to speed in the game. Fans were unhappy with his performance and took to X to share their thoughts on the Frenchman.
A fan questioned the signing of the striker, especially considering the amount of time they had to wait for him.
"We waited 7 years for Mbappe for this??", they wrote.
Another fan likened Mbappe's move to the Spanish capital to Eden Hazard's.
"this Kylian Mbappe move to Madrid", they wrote.
Another fan made fun of his struggles for the side against Villarreal.
"GIVE ME FREEDOM, GIVE ME FIRE, GIVE ME VALLADOLID OR I RETIRE", they posted.
Here are some other posts from fans criticizing Mbappe:
"Deep down, Mbappe is surely regretting moving to Madrid. He would have almost 15 goals and assists by now if he was still in Ligue 1," a fan wrote.
"Mbappe is getting FAR less criticism in this fanbase than he actually deserves. Its not about "settling in". He is shite. Thats it", another posted.
"Real Madrid signed Mbappe and became worse... why not just revert back to what was working last season, push Bellingham forward, and bring Mbappe from the bench if you have to?", a fan wrote.
Kylian Mbappe generated only 0.08xG in his 71 minutes on the pitch, attempting just three shots, none of which were on target. He completed only two of the seven dribbles he attempted and lost eight duels. The former PSG forward created one chance and was dispossessed twice.
Mbappe was making only his second appearance following his injury, having also featured off the bench against Lille in the UEFA Champions League.
Real Madrid go level on points with Barcelona after win
Real Madrid put pressure on rivals Barcelona with their 2-0 win over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu. Los Blancos extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to 41 games with the win over the Yellow Submarine.
Federico Valverde opened the scoring for Carlo Ancelotti's side after just 14 minutes with a deflected effort, his second of the campaign. The visitors threatened a leveller, with Nicolas Pepe rattling the woodwork, but failed to find one.
Vinicius Jr. sealed the three points with a fine strike from range in the 73rd minute to take his side up to 21 points after nine rounds of matches. Barcelona have the same number of points, but have a game in hand over Los Blancos.
Real Madrid were dealt a blow as defender Dani Carvajal had to be stretchered off with an injury late in the game.
