"Casemiro is still a good player" – Arsenal legend urges Manchester United midfielder to move to Premier League rivals
Arsenal great Gilberto Silva has claimed that his former club should launch a move to rope in Manchester United midfielder Casemiro ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Last campaign, Casemiro received scrutiny from fans and pundits alike for his poor performances for the Red Devils. The 32-year-old made 32 appearances across all competitions, often playing as a defender.
During a recent interview with British betting company Bet365, Silva jumped to the Manchester United star's defence. He said (h/t Metro):
"We have to analyse the team itself and not players individually like Casemiro. Manchester United didn't have a good season, they had a few good performances but having a bad season like that impacts everyone. Some players are impacted more than others and I was honestly surprised by how battered Casemiro was by pundits. They need to just calm down and see the whole picture."
Sharing his thoughts on the ex-Real Madrid star's future, Silva added:
"For me, Casemiro is still a good player. I don't know whether he's going to stay or not in the club, but he's a player I would love to have on my team. I think he still has the ability and capacity to stay in the Premier League, whether he's going to be at United or any other club. It depends what he and the club want to do. I hope he can find a club that matches his expectations."
Urging Arsenal to add Casemiro to their ranks this summer, Silva said:
"Casemiro could be a good fit for Arsenal, let's wait and see what happens. It would be very interesting if Thomas Partey left the club. If that spot becomes available, then it would be interesting to see Casemiro there, he would bring a very strong and stable option to their midfield."
Casemiro, who has reportedly drawn interest from Saudi Arabian clubs of late, has recorded 12 goals and nine assists in 83 games for United.
Manchester United optimistic about beating Arsenal to 23-year-old attacker's signature
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are in positive talks with Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee's agents. They are confident about beating Arsenal, AC Milan, and Juventus in the race to sign the Dutchman.
Manchester United, who finished eighth in the 2023-24 Premier League table, are willing to pay Zirkzee's release clause of around £34 million.
Zirkzee, 23, scored 12 goals and laid out seven assists in 37 matches for Bologna last season, helping them finish fifth in the Serie A table.
