Chelsea considering move for Barcelona teenager, likely to be available for €6m fee - Reports

Chelsea are considering making a move for fast-rising Barcelona teenager Marc Guiu this summer. According to a report from Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague the player could be available for just €6 million.

Guiu is one of the most exciting prospects coming out of Barcelona at the moment. The striker started his career in the Blaugrana's youth setup, progressed through the ranks over the last couple of years and got senior team involvement last year.

The 18-year-old made his official debut for Barcelona on October 22, 2023. He came on as a substitute in the closing minutes of a La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao and bagged the winning goal with his second touch after just 23 seconds.

He followed that up with more promising displays in subsequent outings and already has two goals to his name in seven games with the senior team. Thanks to his brilliance, the teenager has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.

According to Guillem Balague, Chelsea are currently considering snapping up the striker from under Barcelona's nose. The football expert made this known in a post on his official X page (formerly known as Twitter).

"Chelsea have asked about 18 year old Marc Guiu, the young FCB striker who had such an impressive start of his career with the first team. He only cost €6m and are considering signing him! Great investment, cannot go wrong as his value will increase either at Chelsea or by selling him eventually," he wrote.

It is still unclear whether Barcelona would be open to letting go of such an exciting talent just like that. Marc Guiu is a player with a lot of promise for the future and he could definitely mark an era at the club alongside players like Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi and Pedri.

However, seeing Robert Lewandowski still going strong and Vitor Roque's recent arrival, it's difficult to project a breakthrough for Guiu anytime soon. It might be more logical to let the young Spaniard leave for more involvement and experience elsewhere. On this note, a loan to Chelsea won't be a bad idea.

Barcelona and Chelsea must step up next season

Both clubs suffered barren spells during the recently concluded campaign. Barcelona couldn't help but watch their arch-rivals Real Madrid dominate Spanish football yet again; Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League and lost the EFL Cup final to Liverpool.

With competition getting more intense, the two clubs must step up to the plate to regain their positions at the domestic level and make a statement in Europe. They've already made a giant stride by appointing new managers this summer.

Up next, they need to back their new coaches in the transfer market to strengthen their respective squads before the next season kicks off. It'd be interesting to see how they'll fare in doing this in the coming weeks.
