Chelsea face fresh competition from surprise Premier League club in pursuit of 25-year-old star: Reports
Enzo Maresca's Chelsea will reportedly face competition from Newcastle United in their pursuit of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, as per the Chronicle (via Caught Offside).
Victor Osimhen is currently playing for Turkish side Galatasaray on a loan deal from Napoli. The 25-year-old agreed to a loan deal on the deadline day after the Seria A giants failed to offload Osimhen in the summer transfer window. This season, Osimhen has bagged eight goals and four assists in nine appearances across all competitions for the Turkish giants.
However, the Nigerian forward is expected to leave Galatasaray soon for a transfer to the Premier League. As per the aforementioned report, Newcastle United will aim to secure the signature of Chelsea's long-time target, Victor Osimhen, next summer.
The Magpies see the Nigerian forward as the replacement for Sweden's Alexander Isak, who's linked with other clubs ahead of the summer transfer window. Enzo Maresca's Chelsea have been keen to sign him as an upgrade for Senegalese attacker Nicolas Jackson.
Osimhen joined Napoli from LOSC Lille in September 2020. He made 133 appearances for the senior team, bagging 76 goals and 18 assists across all competitions. The Nigerian forward also won the Scudetto with Partenopei during the 2022/23 season, being the league's leading scorer with 26 goals.
