Chelsea legend Frank Lampard responds after his image is found on brick of drugs during bust worth £38 million in Australia
Chelsea icon Frank Lampard has issued a response after discovering that images of his face were plastered on bricks of drugs found during a raid in Australia.
The alleged drug trafficker, Richard Prothero, was arrested at gunpoint during a drug bust in Sydney in the parking lot of the Maroubra Surf Club, as claimed by Metro. The Australian Federal Police had found two duffel bags containing methamphetamine.
Every single brick in the duffel bag was reportedly covered with pictures of Lampard wearing a suit with his thumbs up. The photo was taken during the Chelsea legend's lap of honor at Stamford Bridge back in 2017 when he retired after his final stint for MLS side New York City FC.
The former Manchester City midfielder was quizzed on this bizarre turn of events outside of his home in west London during an interview with The Sun. Lampard unsurprisingly confirmed that he had no involvement in the crime nor was he aware of what had occurred.
When asked to comment on the incident, the former Chelsea manager said (via Metro):
"Yeah, you probably know my answer on that one. What am I gonna say about that? I’m not aware of it. I don’t even know what to say to you to be honest. I’ve literally no comment on that."
Lampard represented Chelsea a whopping 648 times during his career, recording 211 goals and 148 assists. The Englishman is the club's top goalscorer of all time. He has won three Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, and the Champions League, amongst other accolades, with the Blues.
Manufacturer of brick of drugs with Frank Lampard's image could be a Chelsea fan
The alleged drug trafficker in question, Richard Prothero, has been charged with attempting to possess a commercial quantity of border-controlled drugs after his arrest in a car park in Sydney, as per reports from Metro and The Sun. Police officers swiftly moved in on the individual after he was seen starting a car in an attempt to escape.
The 37-year-old made no application for his bail when he subsequently appeared in court, claims The Sun. The 95 kg shipment of methamphetamine was reportedly tracked by the Australian Federal Police, who also seized £77,000 in cash during the haul.
While Prothero remains in custody, there has been speculation over who manufactured the drugs. Investigators in Australia seem to believe the drug producer could be an ardent Chelsea fan who stamped these images on the bricks in a tribute to Frank Lampard.
