Chelsea slapped with hefty £75,000 fine by FA following victory over Newcastle United: Reports
Chelsea have been fined £75,000 by FA after picking up six yellow cards in the 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Sunday, according to journalist Kieran Gill. This is the third time this season that the Blues have registered six yellow cards in a single game.
The London giants took the lead against Newcastle United in the 18th minute through Nicolas Jackson. However, the Magpies got back into the game thanks to Alexander Isak's 32nd-minute strike.
Cole Palmer went on to score two minutes into the second half to help his team secure all three points. However, Chelsea's disciplinary issues have now cost them for the third time this season.
Robert Sanchez was booked for delaying the restart, while Christopher Nkunku went into Simon Hooper's book following a show of dissent. Weskey Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke were also shown yellow cards during the game.
The Blues also had similar disciplinary issues in the 1-0 win over Bournemouth, where they received eight cautions and were handed a £25,000 fine. The London giants registered six yellow cards in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest earlier this month and were fined £50,000 by the FA.
Following the latest incident, Chelsea have now been fined £150,000 in total for disciplinary issues this season. They are now the first team in the Premier League to receive six yellow cards or more in three games in one campaign.
How many yellow cards have Chelsea received this season?
Chelsea roped in Enzo Maresca as Mauricio Pochettino's replacement this summer. The Blues invested heavily in the squad once again and the Italian manager has enjoyed a decent start to the new campaign.
The London giants are now fifth in the Premier League after nine games, with five wins and two defeats. They now have eight wins in 14 games under Maresca, who is slowly implementing his ideology at Stamford Bridge. However, the team's discipline should be a cause for concern.
Chelsea now have 36 yellow cards to their name, the most in the league at the moment. They are seven ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southamption, who are the next on the offenders' list.
The Blues are on course to break their record tally of 105 yellow cards from last season under Mauricio Pochettino. Wesley Fofana has six to his name, while Marc Cucurella has picked up five yellow cards so far. Maresca' side, however, are yet to receive a red card this season.
