Chelsea star claims team have accepted Enzo Fernandez's apology after racist chanting incident during Copa America celebrations
Levi Colwill has stated that all the Chelsea players have moved on from the Enzo Fernandez situation. He added that the players understood what he had to explain and is a good person.
Speaking ahead of the friendly match against Club America, Colwill was asked by the media about the conversation between Enzo and the French players. He was quick to admit that the incident was behind them and they were back as a team. He said (via football.london):
"Definitely. We're a team. Every that happens is between us. We're looking forward to have a good season. All the players understand Enzo is a good person and works well for the team. We move on from there at the moment. We all know what person Enzo is. I've worked with him for a year. We know he is a good person. That's it, really."
Enzo Fernandez was involved in a racist chant against the French players after the Copa America win. He was quick to apologize on social media and has now done it in person.
Enzo Maresca speaks about Enzo Fernandez and Chelsea players
Enzo Maresca has admitted that Chelsea players had a chat and were quick to clarify the issue. He added that they were back talking as usual and had no bad blood between them. He said:
"To be honest, we all feel very comfortable. Enzo is back, he had a chat with all of us to clarify there were not any bad intentions. The lads all accepted. Since last night, everything was like before; they were together, all laughing - normal situation. don't know [whether the club investigation has finished]. To be honest, I don't know."
He added:
"The meeting was between Enzo, me, some players. There is nothing more to add. We all make mistakes. Enzo apologised already four or five times. Since yesterday's session, last night, the situation is completely normal. It is what I expected. There were no bad intentions. They are all good people, but all of us sometimes can make mistakes. The meeting was between Enzo, some of his mates, Wesley was there. They spoke with each other."
Chelsea drew to Wrexham in the first pre-season game and then lost to Celtic. They take on Club America in the third match this week.
