Chelsea star Cole Palmer receives biggest price hike in FPL history ahead of new Premier League season
Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has received the biggest price hike in FPL history ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season. With managers preparing their squads for the new FPL campaign, they may have to make a few adjustments to have the Blues man on their team.
Palmer's incredible rise in price has to do with his wonderful performances for the west Londoners last year. On top of that, the attacking midfielder was priced at a meagre £5 million before this.
With a whopping £5.5 million increase, managers can have the England international in their team by coughing up a massive £10.5 million. Last season, Palmer played 33 Premier League matches for the Blues, bagging 22 goals and 11 assists.
In breaking the aforementioned record, the 22-year-old surpassed Andy Carroll's big £5 million jump that he saw between the 2010/11 and 2011/12 campaigns. Carroll failed to live up to expectations following this change, scoring just four goals in 35 appearances.
However, there are great expectations from Palmer, who has made an impact whenever he's featured for England in Euro 2024 as well. In just 125 minutes of action in this year's European Championships, the youngster has bagged an assist.
Therefore, Palmer heads into the new English top-flight campaign on the back of good form. It remains to be seen if he can better the 244 FPL points he racked up last year.
What FPL expert said about Chelsea star Cole Palmer's price in fantasy game ahead of new Premier League season
Days before Cole Palmer's FPL price was released before the start of the new Premier League season, the game's expert Lee Bonfield attempted to predict the former's price.
His prediction was nearly spot on, claiming that the left-footed attacker would see his value doubled. Predicting the prices of midfielders in the fantasy game, Bonfield told the Premier League's official channels (via the league's official website):
"This is a big one- I expect Palmer to double in price from the £5.0m where he started last season. He was the top-scoring player in 2023/24 Fantasy, with 244 points is a phenomenal breakthrough season."
Palmer only joined Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 for a reported £40 million initial fee. His current deal at Stamford Bridge runs until the summer of 2030.
