Chelsea star Malo Gusto sends message to Levi Colwill after bust-up with James McClean during pre-season clash vs Wrexham
Chelsea's Malo Gusto sent a humorous message to teammate Levi Colwill after the latter's bust-up with Wrexham's James McClean during a pre-season friendly. The incident occurred in the opening three minutes of the encounter on Wednesday (24 July) at Levi's Stadium in California, where Colwill reacted aggressively to the Wrexham player's late challenge.
The two were separated before things escalated and neither player received a booking. The Blues' opening pre-season match in the USA ended 2-2, with a late goal from Lesley Ugochukwu (82') saving his team's blushes against the League One outfit.
The video of Colwill and McClean's altercation can be seen below (via ESPNFC):
Not long after full-time, Colwill posted a series of photos from his outing in California against Wrexham. It invited a series of comments from his teammates, including one from Gusto, where the latter seemingly referred to his on-field incident with McClean.
The French full-back wrote on Colwill's post:
"calm down maaan πππ"
Chelsea's next outing will be against Scottish giants Celtic on Saturday (July 27) at the Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana. It remains to be seen if Colwill features there, with pre-season games against Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid also lined up in the USA in the coming days.
Chelsea star Levi Colwill gives his take on Enzo Maresca
Just when things seemed to be on the up for Chelsea, they parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine salvaged what was destined to be a disastrous season and helped them finish sixth in the league, winning each of their last five matches last term.
Many felt that with the owner's strategy of investing in the future and signing young players, 'Poch' would also be given some time. But that wasn't the case. Nevertheless, it seems that Chelsea players are getting along just fine with Enzo Maresca, and Levi Colwill recently gave his verdict on the former Leicester City manager.
The 21-year-old defender told the club's official website (via WeAintGotNoHistory) earlier this month:
"Heβs [Enzo Maresca is] on the pitch all the time. Heβs proper hands on. I think if I was a coach, this is the best way to be, because you know how you want to play, and you can envision it perfectly. [He] seems amazing so far [and] hopefully he can just help us win more games and achieve more things at a team."
Colwill, who is contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2029, has been at the club since 2011. All 32 of his senior Chelsea appearances came last season, with 23 of those being in the Premier League.
