Chelsea star's transfer to BlueCo. owned Strasbourg collapses - Reports
According to a report by L'Equipe, Chelsea's attempt to sell Deivid Washington to sister club Strasbourg has collapsed. The Blues are keen to move many players around to balance their books and guarantee all their youngsters sufficient game time. The publication reports that the move collapsed at the 11th hour after it was suggested the Premier League would investigate the sale.
The west London club signed the 19-year-old Brazilian a year ago from Santos in the Brazilian Serie A for €16 million. He has made 11 appearances in their U21 squad, scoring six times, and featured for the senior team three times. Washington is contracted to Chelsea for six more years.
Strasbourg are a sister club to the west London side, owned by the BlueCo. group. The French side finished 13th last season and will be keen to use their connection to the Premier League side to improve their position in the seasons to come. They currently sit seventh, with a win, a loss, and a draw from their opening three Ligue 1 games.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca opens up on Conference League hopes
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has highlighted his intentions ahead of the upcoming UEFA Conference League campaign. The west London side heads into the tertiary European competition with the hope of becoming the first team to win all three UEFA competitions.
Speaking via Football London, the Italian manager said:
"It is a competition where we are going to try and do our best in. I think tonight, once again, the team shows in the way we started that the team was there. Then the game, we concede; they had some chances and we lost a little bit of confidence."
"But overall, even in the second-half I am now thinking a bit that I remember three times one-v-one with the goalkeeper. In the end, if we are able to take the chances, especially in the first-half when we are 1-0 up, if we are able to score the second one then the game is finished," he added.
"It's one more competition. We have Conference League, Premier League, FA Cup, the Carabao Cup - they are all competitions where we are going to try and do our best and then we will see where we arrive," Maresca concluded.
Chelsea look set to have a busy campaign under Enzo Maresca after securing their return to continental football this season. The Blues will next be seen in action in a Premier League home fixture against Crystal Palace on Sunday, September 1.
