Chelsea Transfer News Roundup: Blues eyeing goalkeeper duo; club want Leicester City ace, and more - June 7, 2024
Chelsea are preparing to get back to their best under Enzo Maresca next season. The Italian manager took charge of the first team earlier this month following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.
Meanwhile, the Blues are planning to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. Elsewhere, the London giants are planning to move for Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
On that note, here's a look at the key Chelsea transfer stories as on June 7, 2024:
Chelsea eyeing goalkeeper duo
Chelsea have set their sights on Filip Jorgensen and James Trafford ahead of the summer, according to transfer insider Ben Jacobs. The Blues are looking for a new goalkeeper this year following Robert Sanchez's struggles .
Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to return from his loan deal with Real Madrid but is unlikely to stay at Stamford Bridge. The London giants have identified Jorgensen as an option, with the Danish custodian catching the eye with Villarreal in the 2023-24 campaign.
Jorgensen registered six clean sheets in 37 outings across competitions for the Yellow Submarine. Meanwhile, Burnley goalkeeper Trafford is an option as well, with the 21-year-old also tipped for a great future.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs added that Chelsea are also planning to offload players this summer.
“Chelsea have discussed players like James Trafford and Filip Jorgensen in case they need to make a change.
"But also, Chelsea’s focus will be on outgoings. It isn’t only about which names they’re going to bring in and which positions they’re going to strengthen,” said Jacobs.
The Blues have to consider departures this summer as they look to adhere to the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.
Blues want Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Chelsea have set their sights on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, according to The Sun. The English midfielder enjoyed a fruitful 2023-24 season under Enzo Maresca at Leicester City, registering 12 goals and 15 assists in 49 games across competitions.
Maresca recently took charge at Stamford Bridge and is now plotting a reunion with his former player. The Blues could say goodbye to Conor Gallagher this summer and are expected to sign a replacement for the 24-year-old.
The Italian manager has identified Dewsbury-Hall as the ideal candidate for the job. The Foxes are likely to demand £40 million to let the 25-year-old go.
Chelsea receive Benjamin Sesko boost
Benjamin Sesko hasn't agreed to join Arsenal this summer, according to Ben Jacobs. Recent reports have suggested that the Gunners are hot on the heels of the the RB Leipzig striker this year. Chelsea are also looking for a new No. 9 and have their eyes on Sesko.
The Slovenian striker enjoyed a fruitful 2023-24 season with the Bundesliga side, scoring 18 goals and setting up two in 42 games across competitions. The Mirror reported last month that the 21-year-old prefers a move to the Emirates.
However, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs rubbished those claims.
“With Benjamin Sesko, there is a high volume of interest, but no final decision has been made by the player at this stage. So it is not true, at the time of reporting, that Sesko has accepted Arsenal," said Jacobs.
He continued:
“He hasn’t made any final determination yet. There’s four clubs looking at Sesko quite seriously, Arsenal and Chelsea are the main two, while Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain could also enter the race."
Jacobs added that Sesko also has a lucrative renewal offer on the table if he wants to continue at the Red Bull Arena.
“We also need to be clear that there is an extension at RB Leipzig on the table too and that is not to be discounted because it comes with a lucrative pay rise,” said Jacobs
Sesko's contract with Leipzig expires in 2028, and he reportedly has a €50-60 million release clause in his deal.
