Chelsea Transfer News Roundup: Blues set Trevoh Chalobah price, club face Juventus competition for German ace, and more - July 29, 2024

Chelsea have been heavily involved in the transfer market this summer. Enzo Maresca has already made multiple changes to his squad, but remains eager for further reinforcements.

Meanwhile, the Blues have set their asking price for Trevoh Chalobah. Elsewhere, the London giants will face competition from Juventus for a Bundesliga forward.

On that note, let's look at the major Chelsea transfer stories from July 29, 2024.

Chelsea set Trevoh Chalobah price

Chelsea want £30-35m to part ways with Trevoh Chalobah this summer, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. The English defender is no longer a first team regular for the Blues, who are ready to listen to offers for him this year.

Chalobah registered just 17 appearances across competitions last season, struggling with injuries in the first half of the campaign. The 25-year-old is under contract with the club until 2028, but his time at Stamford Bridge could be coming to an end.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano said that the London giants are yet to receive an offer for Chalobah.

“The price tag wanted by Chelsea is something between £30-35million for Trevoh Chalobah. There are proposals from the Premier League and from abroad," said Romano.

He continued:

“There is interest but, at the moment, still no formal proposal on the table at Chelsea. They’re also waiting to see what happens. My feeling is that it’s going to take some time before we know the new club of Chalobah.”

Enzo Maresca has already strengthened his back-line this summer by signing Tosin Adarabioyo.

Blues face Juventus competition for Maximilian Beier

Chelsea will face competition from Juventus for the services of Maximilian Beier, according to Bild. The German striker caught the eye with Hoffenheim last season, registering 16 goals and three assists from 35 games across competitions.

Still only 21, Beier fits the Blues' recent youth-oriented transfer strategy. Enzo Maresca is looking for a new No. 9 this summer as he looks to guide the club back to their glory days.

Nicolas Jackson has failed to convince since his move to Stamford Bridge last year from Villarreal. Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku spent the last campaign on loan at AS Roma and is likely to be offloaded.

Beier could be a fine option for the job, but is also wanted at Turin. The 21-year-old had a €32.5m release clause in his contract earlier this summer, which has now expired. As such, the German is likely to cost a decent fee this year. The London giants will also face competition from Manchester United and Liverpool for the player.

Former player sends transfer advice

Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill believes that the club should invest in experienced players this summer. The Blues have shown a tendency to break the bank for talented young footballers of late. However, their strategy hasn't borne fruit on the pitch so far.

Mauricio Pochettino had a plethora of young talents at his disposal last season, but his team failed to impress. Enzo Maresca has been roped in as the Argentinean's replacement this summer, and he will be expected to get the squad firing on all cylinders soon.

Speaking to The Sun, Cahill claimed that adding a couple of experienced heads to the squad will help younger players realize their full potential.

“I’d like to see a little bit of experience added in the window, to be honest. That would be a sensible play from Chelsea, from my personal point of view, to try and build that spine and knit together some of these young players," said Cahill.

He continued:

“Obviously, the tactic has been to buy exciting young players to then develop over the next two or three years. That sometimes takes time, especially when you get players from different leagues, different countries. It’s not always easy for them to settle."

He concluded:

“For me, a good transfer window for Chelsea would be to have two or three experienced players that are not phased and potentially know the league but have been around a little bit. That would be vital in terms of getting the squad together and helping these young players to progress and almost set the standards and the levels.”

The London giants have signed six players this summer and among them, only Tosin Adarabioyo is over the age of 25.
