Chelsea Transfer News Roundup: Blues suffer Karim Adeyemi blow; club end Dami Olmo pursuit, and more - July 11, 2024
Chelsea are preparing to get back to their best under new manager Enzo Maresca. The Italian took charge at Stamford Bridge last month and is working to improve his squad.
Meanwhile, the Blues have hit a roadblock in their efforts to secure the services of Borussia Dortmund striker Karim Adeyemi. Elsewhere, the club are not interested in RB Leipzig striker Dani Olmo this summer.
On that note, here's a look at the key Chelsea transfer stories as on July 11, 2024:
Chelsea suffer Karim Adeyemi blow
Chelsea have suffered a setback in their plans to sign Karim Adeyemi this summer. According to Mail Sport, the German forward wants to play in the UEFAA Champions League next season.
Interestingly, the Blues finished sixth in the Premier League last campaign but will play in the UEFA Conference League following Manchester United's FA Cup win. Maresca is keen to add more bite to his attack this summer, and Adeyemi has popped up on his radar.
The 22-year-old endured a difficult 2023-24 campaign, registering five goals and two assists in 34 games across competitions. However, his stock remains high, and Maresca is confident that he can get the best out of the German.
Borussia Dortmund are willing to let the player leave for £35 million this summer. Unfortunately, Adeyemi is not ready to give up Champions League football just yet. As such, a move to Stamford Bridge is unlikely to materialise, so the London giants may have to turn to alternate targets.
Blues end Dami Olmo pursuit
Chelsea are no longer working on a deal for Dani Olmo, according to Sky Sports. The Spanish striker is expected to take the next step from Leipzig this summer.
Olmo endured an injury-ravaged campaign with the Bundesliga club but has earned rave reviews with his efforts for La Roja at Euro 2024. His ontract with Leipzig runs till 2027, but they are likely to be open to his departure this year.
The Blues have been linked with the 26-year-old for a while and were expected to move for him this summer. However, Maresca appears to be satisfied with the options at his disposal.
The Italian roped in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City this month and also has Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku in his kitty. As such, the London giants are planning to pursue alternate targets at the moment.
Chelsea not in talks for Jonathan David, says Fabrizio Romano
Chelsea are not in talks to sign Jonathan David this summer, according to acclaimed transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The Canadian striker enjoyed a fruitful 2023-24 campaign with Lille but has entered the final year of his contract.
David scored 26 times and set up nine in 47 outings across competitions and is now a sought-after man. Recent reports have suggested that the Blues are keeping a close eye on his situation.
Maresca is expected to sign a new No. 9 this summer, with Nicolas Jackson failing to convince. Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku spent the last season on loan at AS Roma and is no longer part of plans at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano added that an offer of €20-25 million could be enough to secure David's signature.
"For Jonathan David, there is interest from several clubs in England and in Italy.
"At the moment, there is still nothing advanced, but Jonathan David will be one of the opportunities, because he's out of contract next summer at Lille and not extending his contract," said Romano.
He continued:
"For sure, many clubs have asked for conditions of the deal, and I think from what I'm told, that something around €20-25million (£16.8-21m) could be enough to land the player."
Romano confirmed the London giants' interest in the 24-year-old but added that there are no negotiations ongoing at the moment.
"So there could be an opportunity. At the moment, Chelsea have not presented any proposal from what I'm told, so it's still early or all quiet around Chelsea and Jonathan David - apart from the interest they can have for the opportunity. For David at the moment, it's not a proper negotiation," said Romano
Marseca has roped in teenage striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona this month.
