Chelsea Transfer News Roundup: Blues suffer Karim Adeyemi blow, club submit offer for La Liga ace, and more - July 25, 2024
Chelsea parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season. The Blues have since roped in Enzo Maresca as their new manager, who is now working to add more quality to his roster.
Meanwhile, the London giants have suffered a setback in their efforts to bring Karim Adeyemi to Stamford Bridge this summer. Elsewhere, the club have submitted their opening offer for a La Liga goalkeeper.
On that note, let's look at the major Chelsea transfer stories from July 25, 2024.
Chelsea suffer Karim Adeyemi blow, says Fabrizio Romano
Chelsea have suffered a setback in their efforts to sign Karim Adeyemi this summer. According to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have already initiated contact with the player's entourage to facilitate a move this summer.
Recent reports have suggested that the Blues also have their eyes on 22-year-old. Adeyemi wasn't in his element last season, registering just five goals and two assists from 34 games for Borussia Dortmund.
However, the German forward's stock remains high, with the London giants among a host of clubs eyeing him with interest. Enzo Maresca is expected to seek an upgrade on the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk this summer and Adeyemi could be an option.
The player fits Chelsea's recent youth-centric transfer policy as well, and Dortmund are likely to cash in on him this year. However, it has been reported that the 22-year-old would like to play in the Champions League next season, which puts the Blues on the backfoot.
The Bianconeri are now working to pile further misery on their Premier League counterparts. They have already submitted a contract proposal for the player to consider. However, they are yet to initiate talks with the Bundesliga club.
Blues submit offer for Filip Jorgensen, says Fabrizio Romano.
Chelsea have submitted their opening offer for Filip Jorgensen, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Blues are currently in the market for a new goalkeeper, with Enzo Maresca not entirely convinced by Robert Sanchez.
The Italian manager has reportedly identified Jorgensen as a target. The Danish goalkeeper's ability with his feet makes him a fine fit for Maresca's tactics. Jorgensen registered six clean sheets from 37 games for Villarreal last season.
The London giants have submitted a €20m bid for the 22-year-old, who is willing to move to Stamford Bridge as well. Jorgensen is under contract at El Madrigal until 2029.
Chelsea not eyeing move for Mikel Merino, says Fabrizio Romano
Chelsea are not working on a move for Mikel Merino this summer, according to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano. Enzo Maresca has already roped in Kieran Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City, but apparently remains keen on further reinforcements for his midfield. With Conor Gallagher already linked with an exit from the club, Merino has been named as an option.
The Spaniard has entered the final year of his contract with Real Sociedad and is unlikely to sign a new deal. Merino was in fine form for the La Liga side last season and was part of the La Roja squad that won Euro 2024.
However, in his column for Caught Offside, Romano said that Arsenal, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are the clubs interested in the 28-year-old midfielder.
“Mikel Merino – Despite links with Chelsea and Manchester United, I’m only aware of Arsenal, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid’s interest. Still, at the moment there has been no official bid to Real Sociedad yet, so let’s see how it goes in the next days. Arsenal’s focus now is on completing the Riccardo Calafiori deal," wrote Romano.
He continued:
“But in my opinion Merino would be an excellent signing; quality, consistency, good on international stage, he’s a good opportunity on the market with just one year left on his deal.”
Merino doesn't match the age profile of players recently targeted by the London giants.
