"CONMEBOL says we talk too much" - Vinicius Jr lashes out at Copa America 2024 organizers after Brazil 4-1 Paraguay
Vinicius Jr has lashed out at the Copa America 2024 organizers following Brazil's 4-1 win against Paraguay on June 28.
The Selecaos, who were held to a goalless draw by Costa Rica in their opening game, got their first win of the tournament against Paraguay. Vinicius played a starring role, bagging a brace for his country (35', 45+5').
The Brazilian winger, however, had harsh words for the organizers after the win, telling the media (via The Telegraph Online):
"The Copa America is always difficult because of the pitches, because of the referees - who always go against us - and because the way CONMEBOL treats people."
Vinicius Jr added:
"It's always difficult but we have to stay strong, we can only talk by winning. When we talk, CONMEBOL says we talk too much."
Brazil's win against Paraguay was significant in many regards. It marked their first competitive win in the last six matches. It was also the team's first competitive win under Dorival Jr., who took charge of the side back in January.
The Selecaos are currently second in Group D with four points from two games. Colombia lead the group with six points; the two South American giants will lock horns on July 2.
Paraguay coach Daniel Garnero criticizes Vinicius Jr after Copa America 2024 clash against Brazil
Vinicius Jr was the star man for Brazil in their Copa America 2024 win against Paraguay. The Real Madrid superstar scored twice for his team in the important game.
Paraguay coach Daniel Garnero acknowledged Vinicius' quality but criticized the winger's behavior. He told the media after the game (via Tribal Football):
"Vinicius is an elite player, I have no doubts about it. He has a way of playing that obviously is not very easy for rivals to accept."
Garnero added:
"But this is what referee is for, to give him those limits and he plays as he thinks is best."
Vinicius' flamboyant style of play has often been seen as disrespectful by opponents. He has been on the receiving end of harsh treatment from opposing players in La Liga as well as on the international stage.
