Conor McGregor places confident bet worth staggering amount on Lionel Messi’s Argentina at Copa America 2024

MMA legend Conor McGregor has placed a confident bet worth a staggering $365,000 for Lionel Messi and Argentina to win Copa America 2024. The legendary playmaker has led La Albiceleste to the quarterfinals of the competition, having played two games so far.

Messi provided an assist in their 2-0 win over Canada, while also partaking but failing to score in their 1-0 win over Chile. After that game, though, Messi said he had been dealing with discomfort due to injury, which saw him benched during their 2-0 win over Peru.

Argentina assistant coach Walter Samuel has spoken to reporters about Lionel Messi's condition, stating:

"He was in the locker room, we noticed him better. The situation is improving but it's a few days and the situation is premature to talk about. We'll talk about it on a day-to-day basis with him, and talk to the doctors."

Conor McGregor will be hoping for Messi to start when Argentina face Ecuador in the quarterfinals of the Copa America. The legendary martial artist has placed a staggering $365,000 bet on La Albiceleste to win the competition. If they end up lifting the trophy, Conor McGregor will take home $1,003,750.

Lionel Messi fails to score in Copa America group stage for the first time

Across the last 20 years, Lionel Messi has played in seven different editions of the Copa America and the 2024 edition was the first time he failed to score in the tournament's group stage. However, Messi has been instrumental in his team's performances, providing an assist for Lautaro Martinez in their match against Canada.

Against Chile, Messi created five chances (including one big chance), completed three crosses and three long balls, and played seven passes into the final third.

Messi led Argentina to the trophy in the last edition of the Copa America in 2021, scoring four goals and providing five assists. He was named the player of the tournament for his exceptional performances. The Argentine legend also won the golden ball at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which La Albiceleste won.
