"Content wise, I'd get the better of him" - Crouch makes hilarious claim when asked if he'd challenge Cristiano Ronaldo in the podcast scene

Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has joked that he could challenge Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of content on podcasts but not on numbers. The 39-year-old Ronaldo started his own YouTube channel in August, which has been hugely popular.

Last month, the five-time Ballon d'Or history made history by becoming the first person to garner a staggering one billion followers across social media. Ronaldo is already the most followed person on Instagram, with 640 million followers.

Crouch, meanwhile, said on Sportbible that he could rival Ronaldo in terms of content but admitted defeat if it came to numbers:

"Content wise, I'd get the better of Ronaldo' numbers wise, probably no"

Ronaldo had an interaction with his former Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel, UR Cristiano, where he discussed his various goals like trying to become the first player to score 1000 career goals.

In September, the 39-year-old became the first member of the 900-goal club, reaching the landmark by scoring in Portugal's 2-1 win over Croatia in their UEFA Nations League opener.

Since then, he has scored five more times across competitions for club and country as he prepares to lead Portugal in their UEFA Nations League clash with Poland in Warsaw on Saturday (October 12).

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo acknowledged that the social media milestone was more than just numbers as he set about thanking his followers across multiple social media platforms.

The most prolific scorer in men's international football tweeted after arriving at the historic figure in September 2024 that he has always played for his family and all his fans:

"We’ve made history — 1 BILLION followers! This is more than just a number - it’s a testament to our shared passion, drive, and love for the game and beyond. From the streets of Madeira to the biggest stages in the world, I’ve always played for my family and for you, and now 1 billion of us stand together.
"You’ve been with me every step of the way, through all the highs and the lows. This journey is our journey, and together, we’ve shown that there are no limits to what we can achieve.
"Thank you for believing in me, for your support, and for being part of my life. The best is yet to come, and we’ll keep pushing, winning and making history together."

Among the numerous records Cristiano Ronaldo created on YouTube include being the quickest to reach one million (90 minutes) and 50 million subscribers (a week) on the platform.
