Fans on X have reacted after Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal were knocked out of Euro 2024 following their loss to France on penalties in the quarter-finals. A Selecao suffered a heartbreaking 5-3 defeat in the shootout, with Joao Felix missing his spot-kick after the game ended 0-0 in normal time (July 5).
Both European titans failed to create much going forward in the first half with France looking more threatening on the counter-attack. However, Portugal started the second half strong with Mike Maignan making a pair of good saves in the 62nd and 64th minute to deny Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha, respectively.
Randal Kolo Muani found himself reliving the 2022 FIFA World Cup final two minutes later when was played one-on-one against Portugal keeper Diogo Costa. However, Ruben Dias heroically threw himself in front of Kolo Muani to prevent the deadlock from being broken.
Eduardo Camavinga also missed a massive chance shortly thereafter, sending the game to extra time. Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix both had one big opportunity each to score in the final 30 minutes but neither was able to find the target.
France showed great composure to win the Euro 2024 quarter-final on penalties with Ousmane Dembele, Youssouf Fofana, Jules Kounde, Bradley Barcola, and Theo Hernandez scoring. While Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva, and Nuno Mendes scored their penalties, Felix struck the woodwork.

The 39-year-old was given a rating of just 6.1 by FotMob - the lowest in Portugal's starting XI. He created zero chances, landed one shot on target from two attempts, missed one big chance, and lost six duels.
