"Cristiano has every reason to cry" - Emmanuel Adebayor on Cristiano Ronaldo's tears after penalty miss against Slovenia at Euro 2024
Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has stated that Cristiano Ronaldo had every right to burst into tears after his Euro 2024 penalty miss against Slovenia. The legendary forward was visibly distraught after missing a 105th-minute penalty in the Round of 16 fixture with the scores tied at 0-0. Thankfully for Ronaldo, Portugal secured the win in the penalty shootout.
Adebayor was a legend for his country, Togo, on the pitch, making 68 appearances for the small West African nation and scoring 26 goals while providing four assists. Talking about Ronaldo's emotional reaction after missing the penalty, Adebayor said (via the Al Nassr Zone):
“Kicking a penalty kick for your country is a great thing, the whole country is watching you, especially when your name is Ronaldo. Honestly, from an emotional point of view, Cristiano has every reason to cry. If you are not a footballer, you will not be able to understand.”
Adebayor played alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid during a six-month loan spell in 2011 that saw him make 22 appearances and score eight goals en route to winning the Copa del Rey.
Cristiano Ronaldo is making his final appearance at the European Championships and will be keen to sign off on a high with the trophy.
Cristiano Ronaldo out to make amends against France in Euro 2024 Quarterfinal clash

The Al Nassr star has failed to score in the tournament so far, bagging just one assist and missing a late penalty against Slovenia. The upcoming match is an opportunity for the legendary forward to prove he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level.
Les Bleus are undoubtedly one of the best teams on the planet and are fresh off a FIFA World Cup final appearance before the ongoing European Championships.
