Cristiano Ronaldo equals all-time assists record at European Championship during Portugal vs Turkey
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo equalled the European Championship assist record by assisting his team's third goal in their Euro 2024 clash with Turkey in Dortmund on Saturday (June 22). The 39-year-old unselfishly passed the ball to a teammate despite being in a scoring position.
Roberto Martinez's side dominated proceedings, with Bernardo Silva breaking the deadlock inside 21 minutes before a rather comical own goal by Samet Akaydin made it 2-0 for A Selecao.
Ronaldo's history equalling moment came 10 minutes after the break when he looked set to score his first of this year's Euros but passed to Bruno Fernandes for his team's third. With that, the 39-year-old went level with Czech Republic legend Karol Poborsky's record of eight assists at the Euros.
Ronaldo is already the all-time scoring leader in the competition, scoring five more times than second-placed Michel Platini (9). With 22 goal contributions in the European Championship, Ronaldo is 12 clear of the Frenchman (nine goals, one assist).
With the 3-0 win, A Selecao are through to the knockouts with a game to spare.
What are the other European Championship records Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo could set at Euro 2024?
Cristiano Ronaldo - one of the best ever players to grace the beautiful game - holds a multitude of records at the European Championship. Apart from the records mentioned above, he also has the most appearances (27) and wins (16) at the Euros.
A goalscorer par excellence - with nearly 900 strikes for club and country - Ronaldo's first goal at Euro 2024 will make him the first player to net in six different editions. It will also make him the oldest goalscorer at the Euros.
If he leads Portugal to the final and scores there, the 2016 winner will break Leonardo Bonucci's record of being the oldest player to score in an European Championship final.
Coming off a fabulous 44-goal season in 2023-24 with Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has scored 130 times in 208 times for Portugal, both being record tallies in men's international football.
