Cristiano Ronaldo expresses desire to become owner of a big club, says he'd make changes if he was owner of Manchester United
Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed a strong desire to become the owner of a big club like Manchester United after he retires. He also spoke about his former club, where he notably broke into the limelight when he was a teenager and eventually won his first Ballon d'Or.
It has been a rather topsy-turvy relationship between Ronaldo and the Red Devils in recent years. He returned to the club, to much fanfare in the summer of 2022, but after just over a year, he was on his way out.
The legendary goalscorer slammed the club's infrastructure, owners, and manager Erik ten Hag, leading to a mutual decision to terminate his contract. He eventually moved to Al-Nassr in January 2023, where he has played ever since.
However, at the Globe Soccer Awards, he spoke about the Red Devils once more, making a big claim about what he would do if he was the owner of Manchester United (via Eurosport):
"If I will be the owner of the club, I will make the things clear and adjust what I think is bad there."
Cristiano Ronaldo further revealed his plans:
"I am still very young, I have so many plans and dreams ahead but, mark my words, I will be the owner of a big club for sure."
The 37-year-old could be on the verge of retirement. However, he has scored over 900 career goals and could continue playing till he is the first player in history to score 1000 career goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo praises Ruben Amorim, shares Manchester United hopes
Cristiano Ronaldo praised Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim for his impressive work at Sporting CP, before making the switch to Old Trafford. It has been a difficult time for the Portuguese head coach in Manchester, where he has won just four games in 10.
However, Ronaldo has backed him to improve with the Red Devils. Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards event, he said (via Eurosport):
"He did a fantastic job in Portugal with my Sporting. But as I said before, the Premier League is a different beast. It's a different league. It's the most competitive league in the world. It will be tough.
"The storm will continue but the storm will finish, and the sun will rise. Fingers crossed that things will be good with him and I hope the best for Manchester United because this is a club that I still love."
In two spells at Old Trafford, Cristiano Ronaldo played an impressive 346 games, scoring 145 goals and providing 64 assists. He also won the Premier League three times, the FA Cup once, the League Cup twice, and UEFA Champions League once with the Red Devils.
