Cristiano Ronaldo hits back at Rafael van der Vaart for calling him ‘selfish’ during interview with joke about Portugal captain’s p**is
Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to criticism from his former Real Madrid teammate Rafael van der Vaart with a savage comment. The Portuguese forward briefly shared the pitch with the Dutchman at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Van der Vaart recently discussed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner in an interview with talkSPORT. The Dutchman complimented Cristiano Ronaldo's work ethic in perhaps the most bizarre way possible.
Van der Vaart also called the Portuguese "selfish", insisting that he wasn't happy unless he got on the scoresheet.
"He never left his house! I always say as a joke - Ronaldo is the only player that I never saw his penis. He was the first one on the training pitch and the last one who went," said Van der Vaart.
He continued:
"First of all, his body, wow! A machine. He was a little bit ahead of his time, players now are the same. But the training in the gym, food, sleep... for him that was more important than training extra hard."
"Ronaldo was unbelievably selfish, if we won 6-0 and he did not score, he was not happy. When we lose but he scored twice, it'd be alright."
Van der Vaart's comments found their way to social media and caught Cristiano Ronaldo's attention. The Portuguese decided to respond with a four-word comment:
"Who is that guy?" wrote Ronaldo.
The 39-year-old currently plies his trade with Al-Nassr. His contract with the Saudi club expires at the end of this season, but he is expected to sign a new deal.
When did Cristiano Ronaldo last win the Champions League?
Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Champions League five times, four of which have been with Real Madrid. The Portuguese won the coveted European tournament for the first time with Manchester United in 2008.
Ronaldo left the Red Devils in the summer of 2009 to complete his dream move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Cristiano Ronaldo took his game to a whole new level with Los Blancos and won his second Champions League trophy in 2014.
The Portuguese legend then won the coveted European tournament for three consecutive seasons from 2016 to 2018 with Real Madrid. After lifting his fifth Champions League trophy - fourth with Los Blancos - the Portuguese left for Juventus in the summer of 2018. By then, he had scored 450 goals in 438 games for Real Madrid.
