Cristiano Ronaldo led Al-Nassr's president threatens to resign from post due to current budget situation

Al-Nassr president Ibrahim Al-Muhaidib has threatened to resign as Cristiano Ronaldo's club side suffer from budget constraints. Al-Alami are reportedly at loggerheads with the PIF, who claim the Riyadh-based side used all of their funds last summer and can't be sanctioned new funds this term.

Several top Al-Nassr superstars face uncertain futures with Aymeric Laporte reportedly wanting to leave. Players like Otavio and Alex Telles have also been linked with transfers away from the club. Al-Muhaidib has now given an ultimatum, saying (via Al Nassr Zone on X):

"One hand doesn't clap and if the current situation doesn't change at Al-Nassr I will submit my resignation."

He also shared a message for the fans, saying:

"I am with you and in you, Al-Nassr fans, and I give everything I can, and most of my daily time is meeting for our club Al-Nassr."

Al-Nassr recently went through a leadership reshuffle after former president Al Muammar stepped down. Despite having an impressive squad with superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane, the club continue to face administrative issues.

The recent saga could be a damning blow to the Knights of Najd, who are keen on making a comeback following a trophyless campaign. Despite Ronaldo's blazing goal-scoring form last season, 44 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances, the team choked in crucial moments.

Al-Nassr suffer pre-season defeat in Cristiano Ronaldo's absence

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently on vacation following Euro 2024. His club side, Al-Nassr, though, have started their pre-season and suffered a disappointing loss against Portimonense (0-1) in a friendly.

Portimonense were relegated from the Portuguese top flight last season. While Ronaldo isn't present, Al-Nassr boast several other good players and the disappointing result will add pressure on manager Luis Castro.

Al-Nassr are set to play FC Porto and Lusitano 1911 in friendlies before starting their season officially on August 14. They will play Al-Taawoun in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final in the opening game of their 2024-25 campaign.
