Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr to file complaint against red card received in Saudi Super Cup S/F win over Al-Taawoun - Reports

According to a report by Alta Mimi, Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr are set to file a complaint against the Red Card shown to their Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. The 31-year-old was given his marching orders late in the semi-finals of the Saudi Super Cup against Al-Taawoun on Wednsday, August 14.

The midfielder's sending-off would see the match end on a sour note for Ronaldo and his teammates despite their 2-0 win. The club will file a complaint over the decision and will hope for the card to be downgraded or rescinded before the final.

Brozovic is a veteran for club and country with 525 club games and 99 international caps under his belt. He played 330 times for Italian giants Inter Milan, scoring 31 times and providing 43 assists to help them to the 2020/21 Serie A title and the Coppa Italia in 2022 and 2023. His absence will be a big miss for the team and could make their task of winning the competition that much harder.

Brozovic joined Al-Nassr six months after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2023 and has played 44 games, scoring five times and assisting 12.

Cristiano Ronaldo among the goals as Al-Nassr beat Al-Taawoun in Super Cup semifinal

Cristiano Ronaldo was the man of the match in Al-Nassr's semi-final win over Al-Taawoun in the Saudi Super Cup. The Portuguese legend has begun the season in fantastic form and is now one game away from lifting the first trophy of the new campaign.

The game began with fantastic circumstances for Ronaldo and his teammates after the 39-year-old set up Ayman Ahmed in the eighth minute. The Saudi winger found the back of the net with a shot from the middle of the box to give the visitors the lead.

The former Real Madrid star went from provider to goal-scorer in the second half to double the lead. Cristiano Ronaldo opened his account for the season with a 57th-minute strike that was assisted by Sultan Al-Ghannam.

Al-Nassr's celebrations were soured by the sending off of Marcelo Brozovic in the dying minutes, but the Saudi Pro League giants held onto the clean sheet.

Ronaldo will be keen to maintain his purple patch in the Middle East that has seen him score 59 goals and provide 16 assists in 65 games. His contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and at 39 years old this could well mark his final season of professional football.
