Cristiano Ronaldo's former Manchester United teammate in talks to make debut in KSI's Misfits Boxing event - Reports

Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney's former Manchester United teammate Danny Simpson is in talks for a fight with Misfitts Boxing, according to The Sun (via Goal). Despite being a part of the legendary Red Devils squad between 2006 to 2010, the English defender didn't get enough opportunities to shine at the club.

Simpson was eventually shipped to clubs like Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich Town, Sunderland, and Royal Antwerp on loan before being transferred permanently to Newcastle United in 2010.

However, he found his peak with Leicester City, who famously won the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season.

After hanging up his boots, Simpson has focused entirely on his boxing training and will soon debut on the Misfits platform. Founded by KSI and Mams Taylor, the platform has recently become a hub for people from various realms looking to try their hands at boxing. Even Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney was rumored to appear for a fight on the platform but was ultimately signed by Plymouth as their manager.

The Misfits Boxing owners are reportedly looking to bring in footballers from across the world to participate in their bouts, and Danny Simpson looks to be the first to start the trend.

Wayne Rooney has been one of the greatest ambassadors of the game for Manchester United. The legendary English forward scored 253 goals and created 139 more in 559 appearances for the Red Devils, helping the club win five Premier League titles and one Champions League, among other honors.

On his way out of Old Trafford in 2017, Rooney appeared for an interview with the club's official website. He named Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Scholes as two of the best players he'd ever shared the pitch with.

"“I’d say there are two that stand out, and they’re Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo. Paul Scholes is one of the best midfielders of all time. His passing, vision and the way he controlled the tempo of games was incredible," explained Rooney.

Furthermore, Rooney called Ronaldo 'one of the greats of the game.' The two shared the pitch 205 times for Manchester United and had 25 joint goal contributions. Wayne Rooney scored 14 of those goals while the Portugal talisman netted the other 11.
