Cristiano Ronaldo, Steven Gerrard and more: Manchester United star Luke Shaw names best XI of teammates from his career

Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw has named Cristiano Ronaldo, Steven Gerrard and others among his best XI of teammates across his career. Shaw is part of the England squad that has travelled to Germany for EURO 2024.

Luke Shaw has struggled with injuries throughout his career, most recently dealing with muscle problems that have kept him out for a combined six months last season.

However, England coach Gareth Southgate reckons he will return to fitness during the Euros in Germany. It's worth noting, though, that the full-back has not played a competitive game for club or country since mid-February.

In an interview with OneFootball, the Manchester United full-back picked his best XI of teammates. He opted for Manchester City defenders Kyle Walker and John Stones to join him and Raphael Varane in defence.

In goal, he went for David de Gea, who remains without a club after leaving Old Trafford. In midfield, he opted for the legendary English trio of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Michael Carrick. In attack, Shaw opted for Wayne Rooney, Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo and retired striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo won't be switching clubs this summer

While Luke Shaw got the chance to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United. However, it was short-lived as the legendary striker publicly slammed the club's board and manager in an interview with Piers Morgan.

The outcome of that interview was the mutual termination of Ronaldo's contract, and he joined Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia in December 2022. However, after he scored an impressive 35 goals in just 31 league games, there were reports that the Manchester United legend might return to Europe.

It was believed that he would join up with Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. However, these rumours have been watered down by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who explained (via We All Follow United):

"We’ve also had some interesting rumours about Ronaldo and Bayer Leverkusen because of his strong relationship with Xabi Alonso.
"They are good friends, but no – Leverkusen are not working on this deal, no one is working on signing Ronaldo because he is very happy at Al Nassr and is not planning to change.”

Cristiano Ronaldo is leading Portugal at EURO 2024 where he will become the first player to appear in six editions of the competition, with nobody else doing so in more than four.
