“Danger to my mental health”, “Big waste” – Manchester United fans grow tired of one player after his display in 1-0 win over Bournemouth
Manchester United fans expressed their frustration at Antony's display against Bournemouth despite the Red Devils securing a 1-0 win. Casemiro scored the only goal for United in their away clash. The Brazilian defensive midfielder found the back of the net in the ninth minute of the match.
While Erik ten Hag's side took another major leap toward securing a top-four finish this season with their win, fans were not satisfied with Antony's display.
The Brazilian winger, who started the game, was taken off in the 86th minute of the match. He completed 48 passes and one long ball. However, the former Ajax star completed only one dribble and lost possession of the ball 11 times.
Fans were frustrated with his tendency to cut on his left foot at every opportunity. They showcased frustration on Twitter with one user writing:
"And someone will come and say Antony is our most dangerous attacker, yes he’s a danger to my mental health with his decision making."
Another wrote:
"That 100m on Antony is a big waste. A winger that cannot dribble anyone, and Sancho, that one is not even a footballer."
While Antony has scored eight goals and has provided three assists since his summer move from Ajax, his decision-making hasn't always been the best.
Manchester United, on the other hand, managed to get a three-point lead over Liverpool in fourth place, having 69 points from 36 matches.
Fans, though, were displeased with Antony's performance in Manchester United's win. Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter from them:
Manchester United are reportedly looking to sell Antony
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are contemplating a summer sale for Antony. The Brazilian was signed for €95 million in the summer and has since been inconsistent.
While there have been moments of promise from the young attacker, those have been few and far between to come by. Hence, the Red Devils might look to offload the player, according to the aforementioned report.
Antony, however, has previously successfully worked with Ten Hag at Ajax. Considering the Dutchman looks set to stay at the helm for the foreseeable future, the player could become an asset with time.
