David Beckham thanks Lionel Messi and 3 other players after Inter Miami win Supporters' Shield
David Beckham has sent a message to Lionel Messi and three Inter Miami players after they sealed the Supporters' Shield. The MLS club's co-owner thanked them in a story on Instagram after their win over Columbus Crew.
Taking to the social media network, Beckham posted a photo of Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets holding the Supporters' Shield. The Manchester United legend simply wrote "Gracias" and tagged the club's account.
Beckham also posted a few photos on his Instagram feed and thanked all the players for their role. He captioned it:
"So proud to see our players lift the Supporters Shield 🏆 after a great win in Columbus. Another amazing achievement in the history of this football club and so happy to bring this trophy to the best fans in the League. Now we go again and onto the next one 🩷 @intermiamicf"
Lionel Messi has played a key role for Inter Miami this season despite suffering from injury issues. The Argentine has scored 17 times and assisted 10 goals in his 17 matches for the MLS side in the league.
The Barcelona legend also helped Inter Miami win their first-ever silverware after guiding them to their Leagues Cup triumph last season. However, he could not play a single match in the tournament this season after picking up an ankle injury in the Copa America final.
When David Beckham spoke about how he found out Lionel Messi was joining Inter Miami
David Beckham revealed that he was in Japan when Lionel Messi announced his decision to join Inter Miami. He claimed that the phone started buzzing early in the morning and said:
"A couple of weeks ago, I woke up to about a million messages on my phone. I was thinking, 'What's gone off? I don't usually get this many messages.' All of a sudden, I hear Leo has come out and announced he's coming to Miami. Obviously, it wasn't a surprise to me. I have always said, from the word go, that if I had the opportunity to bring the best players in the game to Miami, at whatever time of their careers, I would do that. I have always made that commitment to our fans."
Lionel Messi has played 33 times for Inter Miami in all competitions and scored 28 times. He had managed just 32 goals in his 75 matches for PSG in his two seasons with the Ligue 1 club.
