David De Gea reacts after Casemiro scores twice for Manchester United in 5-2 EFL Cup win over Leicester
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has sent a message to Casemiro following the latter's brace against Leicester City in the EFL cup on Wednesday, October 30. The Red Devils secured a 5-2 win over the Foxes, courtesy of a fine showing by the Brazilian midfielder.
After the game, Casemiro shared a photo on Instagram of him celebrating his goals. De Gea, who left Old Trafford this summer and is currently with Fiorentina, was quick to respond with a cheeky message.
"Striker?" wrote De Gea.
Manchester United arrived at the game following the removal of Erik ten Hag from the hot seat at Old Trafford. The Dutch manager paid the price for a poor start, with the Red Devils languishing in 14th in the league after nine games.
The 2-1 defeat against West Ham United on Sunday proved to be the straw that broke the camel's back. Ruud van Nistelrooy has been placed on interim duties, with recent reports suggesting that Sporting's Ruben Amorim is all set to take over the job.
On Wednesday, Nistelrooy ensured that the fans had something to celebrate after a dismal few days. Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes both registered braces, with Alejandro Garnacho also finding the back of the net.
The Brazilian midfielder has generally struggled this season, with his performances in the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool receiving tremendous criticism. As such, the 32-year-old's efforts against Leicester City, particularly the opening goal, will please fans.
Who is Manchester United's top scorer this season?
Manchester United have struggled to score goals this season, despite roping in Joshua Zirkzee over the summer. The Red Devils have found the back of the net just eight times in nine games in the Premier League, with only Crystal Palace and Southampton scoring fewer.
Manchester United have, however, managed 12 goals in two games in the EFL Cup. The Red Devils despatched Barnsley 7-0 in the third round of the EFL Cup last month, which is their biggest win this season.
Overall, the English giants have scored 26 goals from 15 games in all competitions this campaign. Alejandro Garnacho is their top scorer, with six goals from 15 games.
The Argentinian starlet also has four assists to his name and has been one of the rare shining lights for Manchester United this season. Marcus Rashford and Eriksen have four goals each, while Casemiro is now on three goals. Bruno Fernandes scored for the first time this campaign against Leicester City and has two goals to his name along with five assists.
