"Did more in 20 minutes than Vinicius Junior did in 70 minutes" - Fans hail Brazil star's impact off the bench despite 0-0 draw against Costa Rica

Brazil fans have hailed Savio on X after the 20-year-old had a lively cameo off the bench in their 0-0 stalemate against Costa Rica earlier today (Monday, June 24). The Selecao were unable to get their 2024 Copa America campaign off to a winning start, dropping two valuable points at the SoFi stadium.

Brazil dominated at the start of the game and thought they had broken the deadlock in the 30th minute when Marquinhos tapped in from close range. However, his goal was overturned by VAR due to an offside in the build-up.

Dorival Junior and Co. struggled to finish any of their chances off leading to the former bringing on Real Madrid's Endrick and Savio in the 70th minute to make an impact in place of Vinicius Junior and Raphinha respectively.

Savio - who is expected to join Manchester City this summer - impressed, completing 14 out of an attempted 15 passes with an accuracy of 93 percent. He created one big chance, completed six successful dribbles, and won seven duels.

One fan reacted by posting:

"Brazil's Savio has been a live wire since coming on."

Another fan wrote:

"Sávio is a real hooper out there. Great vibes not great end product."

Another fan stated:

"Savio did more in 20 minutes than Vinicius Junior did in 70 minutes not bad not bad at all."

Here are a few more fan reactions:

"Pep has signed another monster lowkey bro savio is a baller," one fan stated.
"This man watched the same game as me. Savio did an immense job given the shirt time, taking on 3 players just to find space f the wings. A little more experience or composure he’d have been the difference maker," another added.
"Savio is unreal man, long day when city get their hands on him," one fan said.
"Savio 6/8 dribbles In 20 minutes meanwhile ballondor favourite Vini had 0/6 dribbles," one fan chimed in.
"Savio’s one of the few real Brazilians remaining," another posted.

How did Brazil fare in their 0-0 draw against Costa Rica in 2024 Copa America clash?

The Selecao dominated the game in terms of possession with 74 percent of the ball. They attempted 695 passes with an accuracy of 90 percent. In contrast, Costa Rica had 26 percent possession, attempting 248 passes with an accuracy of 74 percent.

Brazil also had many more chances in attack, landing 19 shots with three being on target. Real Madrid superstars Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo had a poor outing, landing zero shots on target. Meanwhile, Costa Rica mustered just two shots with neither being on target, and will be relieved by coming away with a point.
