Didier Drogba picks ex-Chelsea star who scored just 45 goals as superior striker ahead of Erling Haaland
Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has picked Fernando Torres as the better striker over Erling Haaland, as per an interview with GOAL. When asked to pick between the current Manchester City striker and his former teammate, Drogba replied (via Manchester City News):
"Okay, teammate.”
The Ivorian legend was asked to re-affirm his answer, to which he said:
“Of course!”
Fernando Torres played for two teams in the Premier League - Liverpool and Chelsea. While he was a more prolific frontman for the Reds, Torres won more individual honors at Chelsea.
For Liverpool, Torres registered 81 goals and 19 assists in 142 games. His returns dropped significantly at Chelsea, where he only delivered 45 goals and 31 assists in 172 games for the Blues. He did. however, win the FA Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League with Chelsea.
Coming to Erling Haaland, the Norwegian striker has set the Premier League on fire since arriving in England back in 2022. He has netted 105 goals in 114 games for the Cityzens, winning two Premier Leagues, one FA Cup, and one Champions League title.
He has also won a plethora of individual honors, breaking numerous goalscoring records already. Here are some of the more renowned ones he has won while representing Manchester City - one PL Young Player of the Season, one PL Player of the Season, two PL Golden Boots, one UEFA Best Player in Europe, and one Champions League Player of the Year among other honors.
When former Chelsea player Kevin De Bruyne rated Erling Haaland as the most prolific striker
Since arriving in England back in the summer of 2022, Erling Haaland has created a formidable bond with Kevin De Bruyne. The duo have combined for 24 goals together, with the Belgian assisting 22 of those in 70 games.
Having played with greats like Torres, Sergio Aguero, and Samuel Eto'o, De Bruyne was asked in September to pick the most lethal forward he has shared the pitch with.
The Manchester City legend replied (via Manchester City News):
“All around, maybe Kun [Aguero] but it depends on what you talk about. Erling [Haaland] is the most prolific striker I’ve played with. I’ve played with really good strikers like Kun, Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres, there’s some good guys. It’s hard to compare but the stats speak for themselves. He’s started the season on fire and let’s hope he maintains it.”
For comparison, De Bruyne assisted Sergio Aguero on 22 goals in 155 combined appearances at Manchester City.
