"Didn't walk alone today" - Ex-Manchester United star Anthony Elanga makes claim on social media as Forest defeat Liverpool
Former Manchester United star Anthony Elanga sent a message to Liverpool after their 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday (15 September).
The Merseysiders had an excellent start to the 2024-25 campaign, winning their first three league fixtures, including a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United.
However, Arne Slot's side dropped points against Forest at Anfield this weekend. Callum Hudson-Odoi found the back of the net in the 72nd minute, converting Elanga's assist.
After the game, Elanga took to social media to celebrate the victory. While sending his gratitude to the away fans at Anfield, the 22-year-old also aimed a sly dig at Liverpool.
The former Manchester United forward wrote on Instagram:
"Didn't walk alone today, I had the mandem with me. Support was amazing as usual from the away fans!"
Elanga joined Manchester United's youth setup at the age of 12 in 2015. The Swedish attacker earned his first-team promotion in January 2022, but struggled to break into the starting XI.
During the 2022-23 campaign, he managed just 11 starts in the Premier League. Elanga subsequently completed his switch to Nottingham Forest last summer in a quest for more game time.
The Sweden international registered 36 league appearances for Forest last season, scoring five goals and providing nine assists.
"Beautiful weekend" - Manchester United icon Gary Neville mocks Liverpool after Forest defeat
Gary Neville has shared a video of his reaction to this weekend's Premier League results on social media. The pundit mocked Liverpool for losing to Forest while he celebrated Manchester United's win.
The Red Devils secured a 3-0 victory over Southampton at the St. Mary's Stadium. Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho got on the scoresheet for United.
Reacting to Liverpool's defeat to Forest, Neville said:
"Well, what a football weekend. United win. Salford win. And the big one... Liverpool lose."
He then laughed and said:
"Beautiful weekend!"
The Merseysiders are fourth in the league standings after three wins and one loss. They are currently a point behind Newcastle United (3rd) and Arsenal (2nd), while Manchester City lead the league by two points.
United, meanwhile, find themselves in 10th place after a mixed start to the season. The Red Devils have recorded two wins and two losses so far in the English top tier.
Slot's side will next face AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday (17 September) while United play League One side Barnsley in the EFL Cup.
